Usable Art: Jewelry

These pieces of jewelry were created using paint skins. With fluid art, a lot of paint flows off the canvas and ends up on your table. Many responsible fluid artists will reuse this paint in one of two ways.

The first way is to scrape up this paint and save it as "Table scraps". This paint can then be used again, often as a base coat for another painting.

A second method is to let those paints on the table dry. Once dry, they can be peeled off and saved as "paint skins". Paint skins often have amazing designs on them, which were created based on the techniques used by the artist.

All jewelry in this collection were made using paint skins. No two skins will be alike, so each piece is unique. The paint skins are attached to cabochons, which are then embedded into different pendant, earring or bracelet bezels.

Usable art, also known as functional art, is a fusion of art and design. An object is modified using various fluid art or other conventional techniques then sealed/protected accordingly so that it can be used in everyday life while also serving as a work of art.
