Hello

My name is Francine Kay (AKA Fuzzy)

Thanks for visiting FuzzyFluidArt, and I'm Francine.  I am a writer, an artist, a drug development scientist (a chemist, to be exact), a foodie and amateur cook, a dog lover, music enthusiast, an Anglophile (especially all things Welsh!) and an unabashed lover of Arthuriana (mostly of the Welsh variety).  My husband also likes to say I am a repository of arcane and useless knowledge, which has very little use in the real world, but is tops when it comes to trivia....

What is Fluid Art?

Fluid art (also known as paint pouring) seems extremely simple on the surface: pour different paints onto a canvas, manipulate the paint (e.g., by tilting the canvas, spinning it on a spinner or Lazy Susan, blowing the paints with a hair dryer, a straw or your mouth, etc.), and voila!  A unique piece of artwork is created in less than fifteen minutes.  Easy peasy, right?

Well, on the surface, yes. but...

Where Art Meets Science

The problem, I soon realized, was that I had jumped into this new activity with all the enthusiasm and zeal of any fan without actually trying to understand the basics of what I was trying to do.  In chemistry, paint is a beast in and of itself.  It's different from normal solids or liquids.  It acts differently from most solutions.  So I had to take a step back and re-learn the basics of paint...

Commissioned Pieces

Sometimes, what we have in our Gallery is not quite what you would like for yourself.  Perhaps you would like a different color scheme, a modification to a design element, or some other change to an existing painting.  Other times, you may have an idea for a painting you would like to own.

We would love to help you create a special piece of artwork that is made according to your specifications.  All commissioned pieces are priced based on technique used, canvas size(s), number of canvasses (e.g., single paintings vs. polyptychs [e.g., diptychs, triptychs, quadriptychs, etc.]), and complexity of the technique and/or process.

We will work with you very closely to develop your commissioned piece.  Each commission will include the following:

  • Up to three (3) sample paintings for you to review and select from.  Note: sample paintings are generally smaller forms of the finished piece (e.g., if you are ordering an 18x18 canvas painting, the samples may be created on 8x8 canvasses).

  • Photos and/or video of the wet and dried finished piece for your review and approval.

  • One (1) redo of the painting if the finished piece does not meet your standards and approval.

  • A Certifcate of Authenticity (CoA) for the finished piece.

  • Shipping price for the finished piece.

If you would like a commissioned piece, please complete the form below.  We will contact you via e-mail within three (3) business days of receipt of your request for a commissioned piece.  A final delivery date will be discussed with you and approved prior to starting on any commissioned pieces.  Note: fluid art paintings generally take 1-2 weeks to dry.  Depending on the finish used (e.g., varnish, resin, etc.), additional drying time may be needed.
